National University of Malaysia
The National University of Malaysia (Malay: Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia; English: National University of Malaysia; abbreviation: UKM; abbreviated as: National University) is a public comprehensive university located in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor, Malaysia. It is one of the five national research universities in the country. The National University has a branch in Kuala Lumpur, a teaching hospital in Cheras, the National University of Malaysia Medical Center (UKMMC), and research institutes throughout Malaysia. The National University of Malaysia was officially established on May 18, 1970. Its temporary campus was located in Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur, with 3 colleges and 192 students at the time. In October 1977, it moved to its current location in Bandar Baru Bangi, which is a campus covering an area of 1,096 hectares. By 2007, the National University of Malaysia had expanded to 12 colleges, 4 research institutes and 9 academic centers.
The National University of Malaysia is one of the most prestigious universities in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. In the 2023 QS World University Rankings, the National University of Malaysia ranked 129th in the world, 30th in Asia, and 3rd among local universities in Malaysia (after the University of Malaya and Universiti Putra Malaysia). In addition, the National University of Malaysia was also rated as a "5-Star University" by QS.
